Chapter 1.11 Things That Go Bump In The Night

Happy Birthday to you,
Happy Birthday to you...

Rosie struggled to get closer to the white, tasty looking cake. "I want it now!" She pouted, trying to reach for it.
"Wait." Thomas grinned, making sure she didn't squirm out of his arms. It felt so weird her having her birthday. Her first birthday since being in the house, even though she was a toddler, soon to be child. He knew who he had to blame for not knowing about Rosie until a little while ago, but its best to let things like that go after a while.
Besides, finding out about Rosie was probably one of the best things that has happened to him.

When allowed to, Rosie leaned forwards, (with Thomas's help) and blew out the two candles on the cake. Thomas put her down on the floor again.

A little taller and older looking, Rosie was stood in the kitchen. Her legs still felt a little wobbly, and she wasn't fully sure when she'd get used to be so much taller...
She had no choice but to get used to it, she wasn't a baby anymore.

Thomas sighed, watching as his little girl came up to hug him "Please, don't grow up too fast." He whispered, half smiling at her. His voice was low enough so only he and Rosie could hear.
"I'll try not to." She whispered back, smiling at him. "Is my new room ready yet?" She grinned, excited.
"All ready for my little Princess." He grinned back, and let her go see her bedroom.

Rosie couldn't help but smile widely at her new bedroom. It was perfect! Everything was girly and pink. She had a dressing table and a mirror, a desk and her own toy box. Not to leave out that she now had carpet on the floor. It was a nice feeling against her feet, a lot nicer than the wood in the main room and what her room used to have.

As she walked in, she began to hear noises. Something that sounded like her name... She turned to the left wall, unsure of what it was. The only thing so far she could see was the top of her head in the reflection of the mirror.
"Hello?" She asked, fairly quietly. She frowned, and there was no reply. She figured it must have been her imagination making things up, until she heard another noise under the bed.

She jumped down, wanting to catch this monster! She bit her lower lip, looking under the bed. Was there something haunting her room? Are there ghosts in here? She didn't fully know what they were, but she knew she didn't like ghosts. She heard the noise again, this time in the toy box.

"You can't hide forever." She muttered, moving around the toys in her toy box. There wasn't much light getting into it, so the best she could do was try and feel what felt monster-y. "Aha!" She exclaimed in a whisper, finding what she thought was the cause of the noise. It certainly felt monster-y.

Unfortunately, it wasn't quite the monster she was looking  for. This 'monster' would never attack her. It was sooner she'd be the toy's monster, than the toy be her monster. She kicked it to the side, frustrated. She wanted to find this monster. It was quite now in her bedroom, but that didn't mean that she wasn't still curious.

She shoved the door chair to the side, to get a good look under the table. She wanted to catch this damn monster once and for all. It had only been a little while, but she was sick of it! She hated monsters, they were annoying. After making sure it wasn't there, and letting the room stay silent for about half an hour she stood up again, moving the chair to where it was supposed to be.

Rosie realized how late it was, and decided that she should get ready for bed some time soon. She couldn't spend all night searching for monsters. Even if she did, she'd be tired for Spooky Day tomorrow, and she wanted to spend tomorrow with her Daddy and she certainly didn't want to be tired for it. She got changed into clothes she could sleep in. and turned off the lights.

She was about to get into bed, when she heard a hissing noise from under the bed, and a creepy woman's voice spoke quietly "Hey Rosie, have you been looking for me? I think you have." Its voice went a bit higher at the end, almost in a friendly way. Rosie's eyes widened, and she quickly backed up.

Backing up didn't work. She had to leave the room. Who was this monster? How did it know her name? And what on earth did it mean?! She left her room, trying not to cry. She was a big girl now, she didn't want to cry. She didn't cry. Big girls don't cry, and Rosie was a big girl. There's no such thing as monsters.

She stood outside her room for a few minutes, blinking back tears. Determination took place over where the urge to cry used to be. She was not afraid of monsters. Monsters should be afraid of her! She stormed back into the room, and looked at her bed "I'm not scared of you!" She stomped her foot, not caring all too much if she woke up her Daddy or Erin. She wanted to show this stupid monster who was boss.

When there were no more noises, she checked under the bed to see nothing there. "Ha ha ha ha ha." She taunted, thinking she won. She then blew raspberries at where the monster used to be. How silly she was before! Monsters aren't real! Even if they were real, Rosie could easily scare them away.

"No such thing as monsters." She mumbled, still fairly proud of herself. Even if the monsters weren't scared of her, she could easily have just got someone to get rid of them for her. Most grown ups could chase away monsters, and Rosie could too.

It was surprising how quickly Rosie did fall asleep, especially depending on what had just happened earlier. She wasn't scared anymore, she had won this battle.
The war on the other hand... Well, she didn't yet know there was even a war to be fought.

AN: I love Rosie's new room. Its all pink and girly and princess-y, its perfect for her!
She's really brave, a lot braver than I was. I still got creeped out by those glowing red cat like eyes now *shudders*

  1. I love the way you've developed the stuff with the monster under the bed, it's awesome! I can't wait to find out what's going on; what the monster is and what its plans are!

    1. Hee, thank you! I was unsure about this chapter, I used a lot of poses for it.
I'm glad you like the story, and there's more on the Rosie drama next chapter

  2. Haha, loved the 'monsters are annoying' line! Rosie's a really brave girl if her first thought is that they're annoying instead of scary! Hopefully the monster under her bed doesn't mean her harm. Then again, even if the monster means her no harm, having a monster's attention on you is never a good thing.

    1. Hehe, I wanted Rosie to be brave and adventurous (so the complete opposite of me) mainly for the reasons and things like above.
This monster on Rosie's back really isn't a good thing for her

    1. It might be a little difficult for Erin to keep her eye on Rosie for things that will soon be mentioned in time...
Wow, my legacy right now just seems like doom and gloom xD

  4. Oh no! Rosie! Be careful! At least she seems like a brave girl so hopefully she'll be able to handle whatever you decide to throw at her. I hope she does tell Erin about the monster so she can try to figure out what it is, though.

  5. What the heck was that under her bed?! O__O

My my, Thomas has been a busy bee! First a new music room for Erin, and now a new bedroom for Rosie. And yes, it is a very cute room. Very nicely furnished and decorated, and pink :D

    1. That was a monster! It came with Supernatural, where kids can look under their beds for monsters.

I liked doing her bedroom, making it all girly and pretty <3 I prefer to furnish bedrooms over any other room, and I hate initially building houses as I am very bad at that.

    2. Oh wow. I guess I should have my kids check under their beds more often, lol.

    3. Its fun, but quite a lot of the time you can just get nothing. There's the red eye monster or octopus tentacles come out from under the bed.
Its fun, but they can't sleep for about 4 hours afterwards.

  6. Rosie really is brave, just reaching into her toy box when she thought there was a monster in there!

I didn't think it really meant anything, until the end. "...she didn't yet know there was even a war to be fought." I wonder if this is something to do with Alex's feelings about her future.

    1. She is really brave. She thinks that there's no point being afraid of something that isn't there.
Its really weird seeing Rosie this small again... She's still adorable though :3

Wow, that was quite a good line. Yay past me! (sorry, I get a little weird like that sometimes.)
Rosie does have quite a dramatic future. A lot happens to her, and it honestly changed her for the better, and for the worse. But that's still for you to find out...

    1. Those monsters are really creepy! Especially to little kids, so I wrote it the way Rosie would see it. But she's too brave to be scared easily
